Guildford Resin Driveways

Resin driveway colours and aggregate blends

Resin bound colour comes from the natural stone in the mix, so blends are subtle rather than flat. The right choice depends on your brickwork or render, how much the drive gets dirty, and whether it sits in sun or shade.

In short: mid-tone blends such as golds, buffs and mid-greys are the most forgiving of tyre marks, leaves and dirt. Very pale blends look crisp but show marks; very dark blends show dust and get hotter in sun. Choose from a physical sample, viewed on your drive in daylight, wet and dry, and specify a UV-stable resin so the colour holds.

Matching the house

House style Blends that often suit
Red or orange brick Golds, buffs, warm mid-tones

White or pale render Silver greys, charcoal, or warm light stone
Dark cladding, contemporary Charcoal, black-flecked greys
Flint and period cottages Muted natural mixes, avoiding bright or uniform colours

Practical points

  • Dirt and marks: mid-tones hide tyre scuffs and leaf staining best.
  • Heat: dark blends absorb more sun; choose lighter for patios and pool surrounds.
  • Shade: pale blends in damp, shaded spots show algae sooner; clean more often.
  • Borders: a contrasting border of block, granite sett or a second resin colour frames the drive and provides edge restraint.
  • UV stability: colour only stays true with a UV-stable resin.

Approving your colour

Ask the installer to bring physical samples to the site visit. View them on the drive, next to the house, in daylight, both dry and wet. If the drive is large, ask whether materials will come from a single batch.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix two colours or add a pattern?

Yes. Contrasting borders, bands and simple inlays are common. Each colour change needs a clean, straight joint, so intricate patterns cost more.

Why does my sample look different from the website?

Screens cannot show natural stone accurately, and stone varies between quarry batches. Always approve colour from a physical sample, ideally from the batch that will be used.

Which colours suit conservation areas?

Natural, muted stone tones that match local materials are usually the safest choice. If your property is in a conservation area, check with the council whether any guidance applies.
